How is the F7 AiR different from the F7 2.0?Updated a month ago

Schutt F7 AiR vs. F7 2.0 Collegiate and F7 2.0 Professional

The Schutt F7 AiR is the newest F7 varsity helmet platform, designed to deliver advanced fit, comfort, and protection in a lighter, updated helmet design.

Compared to the F7 2.0 Collegiate and F7 2.0 Professional, the F7 AiR offers a newer helmet platform, improved Virginia Tech testing score, lighter weight, updated internal comfort materials, and Schutt’s onboard AiR-Lock fit system.

Virginia Tech Helmet Rating

The F7 AiR, F7 2.0 Collegiate, and F7 2.0 Professional are all Virginia Tech 5-Star helmets. However, the F7 AiR received a stronger Virginia Tech STAR score than the F7 2.0 models. In Virginia Tech’s rating system, a lower score indicates better impact performance.

  • Schutt F7 AiR: 0.92 STAR score, 5-Star rating
  • Schutt F7 2.0 Collegiate: 1.35 STAR score, 5-Star rating
  • Schutt F7 2.0 Professional: 1.35 STAR score, 5-Star rating

This means all three helmets perform at a high level in independent testing, while the F7 AiR offers the lowest score of the three.

Weight and On-Field Feel

The F7 AiR is lighter than the F7 2.0 Collegiate and F7 2.0 Professional. A lighter helmet may help improve comfort and reduce fatigue over the course of practices and games.

The F7 AiR also uses updated internal materials designed for improved comfort on the player’s head.

Onboard AiR-Lock Fit System

One of the biggest upgrades on the F7 AiR is Schutt’s onboard AiR-Lock System. This system includes an air pump built into the rear bumper of the helmet, allowing the athlete to fine-tune the fit without using a separate handheld air pump.

To adjust the fit, the player can press the rear air button to add air. To release air, the player can press the side release button. This creates a more convenient, adjustable fit directly on the helmet.

Impact Management Features

The F7 AiR includes Schutt’s Tektonic Mohawk and rear diffuser design. The Tektonic Mohawk is designed to help manage impact forces, while the rear diffuser helps the helmet sit lower on the back of the head for improved comfort and fit.

The F7 AiR also uses an internal RFLX-S impact layer designed to absorb and deflect forces in sync with the helmet’s one-piece shell design.

Why Choose the F7 AiR?

  • Newest F7 varsity helmet platform
  • Virginia Tech 5-Star helmet rating
  • 0.92 Virginia Tech STAR score
  • Lighter than the F7 2.0 Collegiate and F7 2.0 Professional
  • Updated internal comfort materials
  • Onboard AiR-Lock System built into the rear bumper
  • No handheld air pump required for fit adjustment
  • Tektonic Mohawk impact management design
  • Rear diffuser for improved comfort and fit

Fit Reminder

Helmet performance depends on proper fit, proper use, and correct maintenance. Always follow the helmet fitting instructions and select a helmet based on the athlete’s head measurements, level of play, comfort, and fit.
